With this update we find the beginnings of the “Minor Leagues” which is a catch-all term for a bunch of distinct sporting leagues. We have refined the definitions as follows:

Top Minor Leagues – The Top Minor Leagues are those Big Sports leagues that are affiliated with and support the Major Sports Leagues. These are some of the first Minor Leagues supporting Baseball in particular.

Low Minor Leagues – The Low Minor Leagues are those additional sports leagues that belong to and support the Top Minor Leagues or Alternate Major Leagues. As a class the Low Minor Leagues arrive later as the popularity of sport expands and the number of leagues grow and become more complex.

Top Player Leagues – The Top Player Leagues are those early sports leagues that are setup to attract the top players by paying the player. Yet having top players on a team does not make for a strong league. The Top Player League is notable for its bold attempt to establish itself but none of these leagues or its member teams were not strong enough to go on to form a legacy. Our research shows that Top Player Leagues only occured in Football, Hockey, and Basketball sports.

Womens Manor Leagues – The Womens Major Leagues are any professional sport league played by women including the Big Sports. They are considered to be part of the Minor Sports Leagues umbrella even though they may attract the best female players worldwide. These leagues do not have the richest teams and have not been established long enough to survive Rival Leagues.

Alternate Major Leagues – The Alternate Major Leagues are any top professional sports leagues that is not one of the four Big Sports (Baseball, Hockey, Football, and Basketball). These leagues may attract the best players of that sport worldwide but are small in their scope and marketing reach due to smaller fanbase. Even when there is scope and growing fanbase, the league may still be small in total popularity when compared to other same-sport leagues in other parts of the world. For this reason, Major League Soccer is an Alternate Major League, not a Major Sports League because it does not attract the best players worldwide despite its Major League success in other areas.

Obsolete Leagues – The Obsolete Leagues are those Big Sports or Alternate Major Leagues that are disregarded due to their small geographic footprint, short lifetime/sustainability, and lack of contribution to development to any Major Sports Leagues or Alternate Sport. They will not be given any coverage outside of a link on the Obsolete League Roster.

There are many more updates to come!
