In 2013 we see the National Hockey League hold its 129th season of premier hockey (since 1883), and 95th season of formal league play (since 1917). The season started January 19, 2013 and ran until June 24, 2013. Conventionally, this season is named NHL 2013 since the exhibition and regular season started in 2013 and culminated in the Stanley Cup championship series in 2013.

Thirty teams competed in an 82 game season, with sixteen of the 30 teams (53%) competing in the playoffs. The Eastern Conference and Western Conference champions faced off against each other for the Stanley Cup Championship.
