Meta-League, 2014 (Spans 2014-16)

One of the unique aspects of Major Sports Leagues is that we calculate a cross-league standings between cities and the four major sports. This is what I like to call the Meta-League Championship Series and is calculated each year starting with 2015. This post expands the previous one by including the 2014 year so it spans the years 2014-16. Each annual season consists of Football, Hockey, Basketball, and then Baseball. This is based around when each season championship is played. The Super Bowl is the first championship played, followed by the Stanley Cup, NBA Finals, and then the World Series. In 2014 we see Major League Baseball (consisting of the National League and American League) hold the 157th season of premier baseball (since 1857), and 110th season of formalized league play (since 1903). The season started March 22, 2014 and ran until October 29, 2014. Thirty teams competed in a 168 game season, with ten of the 30 teams (33%) competing in the playoffs. In 2014 we see the National Basketball Association hold its 124th season of premier basketball (since 1890), and 65th season of formal league play (since 1949). The season started October 29, 2013 and ran until June 15, 2014. Conventionally, this season is named NBA 2013-2014 since the exhibition and regular season started in 2013 and culminated in the NBA Finals championship series in 2014. Thirty teams competed in an 82 game season, with sixteen of the 30 teams (53%) competing in the playoffs. In 2014 we see the National Hockey League hold its 130th season of premier hockey (since 1883), and 96th season of formal league play (since 1917). The season started October 1, 2013 and ran until June 13, 2014. Conventionally, this season is named NHL 2013-2014 since the exhibition and regular season started in 2013 and culminated in the Stanley Cup championship series in 2014. 2014 saw the National Football League hold its 124th season of premier football (since 1890), and 95th season of formalized league play (since 1922). The season started September 4, 2014 and ran until February 1, 2015. Conventionally, this season is named NFL 2014-2015 since the exhibition and regular season started in 2014 culminating in the championship in 2015. Thirty-two teams competed in a 16 game season, with twelve of the 32 teams (37.5%) competing in the playoffs.
